03.02.2026-ANITTA Funk Generation (Floresta/Republic,2024)

BRAZILLIAN FUNK

Funk Generation presents Brazilian funk to those unfamiliar with the genre. It does not promise anything other than that (or to “make you lose your breath”). Depending on who you ask, that may be a humble or a bold promise. Does Brazilian funk need a sommelier like Anitta? It may not have needed her to go viral countless times worldwide, but the music deserves someone who takes its global projection as seriously as Anitta does.

01.02.2026-GABBY YOUNG & OTHER ANIMALS One Foot In Front Of The Other (Gift Of The Gab,2014)

POP / FOLK

Gabby Young is an intriguing curiosity. Flamboyantly dressed, classically trained, and once the youngest member of the National Youth Choir, she has a distinctive, at times operatic voice, and a style that's increasingly hard to pin down. She has played at Womad, where she did well with her Balkan-influenced, brass-backed circus swing, but is still expanding her range, as shown by this thoughtful set, in which she constantly changes direction. The global influences now include French chanson – with the unworldly-sounding Sur la Lune – and Caribbean styles, with steel drums joining the brass on the exuberant Back Where We Started, and echoes of European gypsy brass on the stomping and witty I've Improved and the cheerful and then angry The Devil Has Moved On. Mixed in with all this are slower ballads; best is the exquisite and personal Fear of Flying.

30.01.2026-OLOF ARNOLDS Palme (OneLittle Indian, 2014)

FOLK

Palme is short, compact, stunning. It’s a record a little like a music box, with ballerina popping up and spinning intoxicatingly, especially to those who let themselves become one with it. It’s like a fragile and wonderful little universe.

26.01.2026-BEATRICE DEER Shifting (Musique Nomade,2022)

INDIE ROCK

Montreal-based singer-songwriter Beatrice Deer understands how to merge opposite worlds to birth a fresh, inventive new one. A blend of modern folk tales with traditional Inuit ones serves as a landscape for her music, where the sounds of classic indie pop and rock are interwoven with Inuit throat singing. On top of this, the half-Inuk, half-Mohawk artist also sings in three languages: English, French and Inuktitut, at times switching between multiple within one song. Her approach to bringing these elements together is skillful and graceful on her sixth studio album SHIFTING, where she explores the emotions surrounding getting older and moving on to another phase of life.

24.01.2026-PEACE Utopia (Not On Label,2025)

INDIE ROCK

Five years since their last album and over three since they uttered a peep to the world, Peace are back. Now stripped down to a duo - but with some truly mind-boggling plans up their sleeves - the Birmingham boys are stepping into a wild new dawn.

22.01.2026-MYNABIRDS It's Okay To Go Back If You Keep Moving Forward (Our Secret Handshake,2025)

INDIE POP

‘It’s Okay To Go Back If You Keep Moving Forward’ is a rare act of artistic excavation. Recorded live to tape with no overdubs, it situates itself at the intersection of vulnerability and intention, where imperfection becomes a sacred aesthetic. Burhenn strips her sound to its elemental form: voice, piano, air, and silence. What emerges is a cycle of songs that feel exhaled, a quiet dialogue between memory and presence.

19.01.2026-WARPAINT Radiate Like This (Heirlooms/Virgin,2022)

INDIE ROCK

Radiate Like This is an extremely enjoyable album and it’s guaranteed to please Warpaint fans. Furthermore, I can see the band picking up many more admirers thanks to the overall strength of this collection. Who wouldn’t enjoy the way that this music sucks you into its vortex and gently turns you inside out before laying you gently back down again?

17.01.2026-MARGARET GLASPY Devotion (ATO,2020)

INDIE POP

‘Devotion’ explores themes of romance, but it’s less to do with a tangible, solid figure and more about her ideas, emotions, questions and feelings about love itself. On opener ‘Killing What Keeps Us Alive,’ the haunting, soft synths complement her voice, and across the record, they work as mood-shifts and emotional changes - enabling her longing in ‘Without Him’ and trying to recapture the sentiments of first romance in ‘Young Love’. Margaret still sounds the most at home with her string instruments, but her foray into experimenting with electronic music has paid off.

15.01.2026-DARCYS Fear & Loneliness (Darcys Inc.,2020)

ART ROCK

If you want to see a clear shift in style and mood from a band, then The Darcys are a perfect example. Just compare the monochromatic album covers of their first trio of albums against the pastel pink background of their fourth. The music shifted too, from ash-dark indie art rock inspired by Cormac McCarthy, to bright 80s pop full of synthesizers, rubbery basslines, and relentlessly catchy hooks. As the band went from a four piece to a duo, their focus shifted and they found new terrain to conquer, making a strong and infectious case with 2016’s Centerfold.

12.01.2026-C'EST LA MORT Empty Words Fill Lonely Places (Dismal Nitch,2010)

SHOEGAZE / ETHEREAL

C’est la Mort consists of a drummer, a bassist, and two guitarists; whose delicate interplay weaves a sonic concoction full of ethereal beauty and urban angst. Their style instantly evokes the classic 4AD sound combined with a not-so-subtle adoration of The Chameleons. This said, the vocals are much the opposite and provide the listener with a unique experience: singer Kim House’s voice falls somewhere in the realm between Miki Berenyi (Lush) and Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins).

10.01.2026-JUANA MOLINA Halo (Crammed Discs,2017)

FOLKTRONICA

Molina was known in her native Argentina for a sketch-comedy show, which she ended in the mid-90s to work on music. The title of her seventh album, Halo, refers to a spooky Argentine folktale, and the music is similarly unsettling, with Molina whispering her vocals over heady waves of percussion and snaking bass.

08.01.2026-LAUFEY Everything I Know About Love (AWAL,2022)

JAZZ POP

Laufey leaves us breathless and swooning with gentle yet sultry modern jazz in her magical debut album, ‘Everything I Know About Love.’

06.01.2026-LITHICS Tower Of Age (Trouble In Mind,2020)

POST PUNK

The members of Lithics clearly have a lot of integrity as musicians and artists. As much as the quartet walks the same walk that made their forebears like Richard Hell and Alan Vega so effortlessly cool, they also capture a playful and arresting energy. Tower Of Age is a commanding record that defines the verve in any room that it comes on in. Its acute and wide eyed ethos explains why Lithics have shared stages with acts as prolific as Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks and Wilco. While it may have flown quietly under the radar, Tower Of Age is one of the most bewitching guitar-driven records I’ve stumbled upon in a very long time.

04.01.2026-FRANKIE ROSE Seventeen Seconds (Turntable Kitchen,2017)

POP

The cover of Seventeen Seconds is glorious. Although Seventeen seconds has never been my favorite album by the Cure, I can appreciate the atmospherics and the Factory Records sound of the LP.  Rose doesn’t stray too far from the source material in her recording, which makes sense, given her love of the original.

02.01.2016-APPARATJIK Square Peg In A Round Hole (Metamerge,2012)

ALTERNATIVE ROCK

The band (Coldplay’s Guy Berryman, Mew’s Jonas Bjerre, A-ha’s Magne Furuholmen and producer Martin Terefe) first came together for a charity album and their debut ‘We Are Here’ surprised many critics.
The best part is that, unlike most super groups, Apparatjik actually sound like a decent band. There’s no doubt Coldplay’s Guy Berryman will be the main selling point here but he never takes the spotlight, comfortably passing the bat to Bjerre and Furuholmen.
